Happy autumn, Everyone!

Autumn_2018_Readers

23 September 2018

Well, it’s been a while, but I am back in the studio (after a year of Sabbatical). It feels good!

My studio is sporting a new roof, and I am putting up the storm windows in preparation for what they say will be a cold winter. Wood has been stacked for the stove, and my mind is a clutter of ideas… waiting to be “realized” as figurative sculptures. I am feeling the need for some new “studio buddies,” so let the work begin!

I’m getting back into the feel of clay by shaping a new batch of “Readers,” as most of the previous iterations were adopted by WAVE tour visitors during the summer, and there are folks who want some prior to Christmas.

A heartfelt invite… WAVE Artists’ Studio Tour.

Shapely vitrified hearts, crafty pendents, the ever-popular readers, and engaging ceramic sculpture… along with hugs galore, await you! Don’t worry about the rain — make this a weekend to remember!

Please come out to the 2015 WAVE Artists’ Studio Tour on Saturday, 5 September and Sunday, 6 September (10:00 to 18:00 each day). ‘What? Clay Art & Curios’ is #13 on the tour (click for map).

Thinking about gift-giving?

4 November 2012

On Thursday, 8 November, I’ll have a table of diverse “give-ables” at Artspace, 100 Arthur Street (in Winnipeg) before and after the screening of Tapestries of Film. Doors open at 18:00, film screening at 19:00. My “ware” will include Readers*, quirky shot-glasses and nesting-bowls, as well as wearable clay pendants, etc…

I’d love to see you there!

* Various book-clubbers have placed pre-Christmas orders for these studious little beings… contact me directly for special pricing on a batch of 4-or-more.

Handmade Holiday Sale… see you there?

22 November 2010

Please consider coming out to the Manitoba Crafts Council’s Handmade Holiday Craft Sale at the West End Cultural Centre on Ellice, this Friday 26 November from 17:00-22:00, and Saturday 27 November from 10:00-16:00. The event promises to be even “bigger & better” than last year

One of my recent sculptural pieces entitled ‘Nice ‘n Naughty’ was selected to appear on the event poster. Along with lots of Readers, match-bowls, pendants and other wares suitable for impulse-buying and gift-giving, I’ll be showing a few sculptural pieces.

Handmade gift-ideas…

24 October, 2010

In case you’re looking for a unique gift for that “special someone” during the holiday season this year, please consider coming out to the Manitoba Crafts Council’s Handmade Holiday Craft Sale at the West End Cultural Centre on Ellice, Friday 26 November from 17:00-22:00, and Saturday 27 November from 10:00-16:00. The event promises to be “bigger & better” than last year

Among the handmade gift offerings I’ll have for sale will be a selection of fine jewelery and of course the little ceramic Readers that have become very popular over the past year. Shown above is a selection of another favorite among women: Piercings (black fired stoneware orbs with metal beads or Swarovski crystals on reclaimed sterling silver chains, ($35 to $65).

Catch the Wave… this weekend!

31 August 2010

I’m very much looking forward to the studio visits that this coming weekend will bring. I thoroughly enjoy chats with old friends and getting to know new acquaintances… for which The Wave Artists Studio Tour provides the perfect opportunity. Please drop by my studio in Winnipeg Beach on Saturday or Sunday (4 or 5 September)—I’m number 13 on the tour map… look for the blue and white sign posted on Highway 9 to catch the turnoff (at the Lady of the Lake Church on Lake Avenue)… follow signs to the flag (and the unmistakable white picket fence) at 275 Eaton Street.

“Readers” have proven to be particularly popular since I introduced them late last fall. Dozens of new ones have emerged from the kiln and are now buried in their books, awaiting empathetic bibliophiles and bookworms.
